Bot Traffic IndexThe bot problem, quantified

Answered by Bot Traffic Index

How much bot traffic is normal for an online store?

Public reports put automated traffic near half of web requests overall, but store-level shares vary widely by product type. Measure your own with detection at the edge or in analytics.

Aggregate industry figures are a poor guide to any single store. Scarcity-driven categories (limited drops, collectibles) attract far more automated buying; content-heavy stores attract more scraping. Your share also depends on what you count - benign crawlers versus hostile automation.

The reliable path is measurement, not benchmarking: deploy bot detection and look at the split by page type and over time. Many stores are surprised in both directions - more scrapers than expected, and a cleaner ad-audience picture once fake sessions are removed.
