Bot Traffic IndexThe bot problem, quantified

Bot Traffic Index glossary

Scraper bot

Automated software that copies catalog content, pricing, or images from a storefront - typically for competitor monitoring, counterfeiting, or content reuse.

Inventory hoarding bot

A purchasing bot that adds scarce items to carts or completes checkout faster than human shoppers, usually to resell at a markup.

Click fraud

Automated or incentivized fake ad clicks that spend an advertiser's budget without any real shopper behind them.

Residential proxy

An intermediary that routes bot traffic through real household IP addresses, making requests look like ordinary shoppers and defeating IP-based blocking.

Behavioral bot detection

Identifying automation from how a session behaves - timing, interaction patterns, fingerprint consistency - rather than from static signals like IP address or user agent.

Edge blocking

Stopping hostile traffic at the network edge, before requests reach the storefront server - which keeps fake sessions out of analytics, pixels, and inventory systems entirely.
