What is bot traffic on an ecommerce site?
Automated, non-human requests: scrapers copying catalog and pricing, inventory bots buying limited stock, and fake-engagement bots polluting analytics and ad audiences.
Bot traffic is any request generated by software rather than a person. Some is benign - search engine crawlers, uptime monitors. The harmful categories for stores are scrapers (stealing catalog and pricing data), transaction bots (buying scarce inventory faster than humans), and engagement fraud (fake clicks and pageviews that burn ad spend and distort metrics).
The practical problem is that harmful bots increasingly mimic real browsers, so simple IP blocking catches only the crudest share.
